Adding or modifying an activity type

Each of your activities has an activity type. An activity's type determines the possible actions that are available for that activity. Some possible activity types are Classes (regular activities), Races, Activity Packages and Private Lessons. Use activity types to restrict or allow different functionality for different kinds of activities.

1. Go to Administration > Registration Settings > Activity Types.

2. Choose one of the following:

• To create a new activity type, click Add New.

• To modify an existing activity type, click the Name of the activity type.

3. Enter the Name of the activity type.

4. In the Components section, select the functions that are available for activities in this type.

The first step when creating a new activity is selecting the appropriate activity type, which determines the available options on the Activity Details page, along with the actions presented on the Activity Functions page.

Activity types for simple activities (for example: activities that meet once or that are based on a set schedule) don’t need any advanced components.

For more complex activities with special requirements, however, you will want to make sure to set up an activity type with the correct components enabled. For example:

• If the activities that use this type are for scheduling custom one-on-one, semi-private or group instruction with an instructor, then create an activity type with the Private Lessons component enabled. This will enable the private lesson configuration action on the Activity Functions page for activities that use this type.

• If the activities that use this type represent leagues or sports where the participants are divided into teams, then create an activity type with the Teams component enabled. This will enable the team configuration and team management actions on the Activity Functions page for activities that use this type.

• If the participants in the activities that use this type are broken down into groups (for example: by age or skill-level), then create an activity type with the Groups component enabled. This will enable the group configuration and group management actions on the Activity Functions page for activities that use this type.

• If the activities that use this type serve as “packages” to link together individual activities for registration in a single transaction, then create an activity type with the Activity Lists component enabled. This will allow you to define one or more lists of activities and create an activity package.

• If the activities that use this type will be "parent" activities to one or more sub-activities, then create an activity type with the Sub-Activities component enabled. This will enable the sub-activity management action on the Activity Functions page for activities that use this type.

• If the activities that use this type represent races, then create an activity type with the Racing Configuration components enabled. This will enable the racing configuration actions on the Activity Functions page for activities that use this type.

5. Click Save.
